YLW SKY

IT’S MORE THAN CLOTHES

EVERYTHING YOU SEE FOR SALE WAS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER OF BECOMING TRASH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

In 1960, it is recorded that the world produced 1.76 million tons of textile waste, yearly.

From 1960 to 2018, that number jumped from 1.76 million to 17 million tons.

That is a 15.24 million ton increase in the span of FIFTY EIGHT YEARS.

A 2023 study showed that number jump from 17 million, to a jarring 97 million tons of textile waste produced, yearly.

That is an 80 million ton increase, in just the span of FIVE YEARS!

Much of this increase is due to fast fashion mega brands, but those companies don’t exist without consumers. Let’s change the way that we choose to consume clothing!

Our home here on Earth doesn’t come with unlimited space. Let’s do what we can to take care of our home, and wear the clothing that already lives here with us!

Thank you for your time and attention.

We love you all!

yellow sky mission statement

ENVIRONMENTALISM

First and foremost, our top priority / mission is to do all that we can to help slow the rapid acceleration of textile waste that our planet produces. We hope to empower people with knowledge, and to help motivate others to change the way in which they think about their consumption of clothing. Just like the plastic that pollutes our oceans, many very popular fabrics and fibers used in clothing manufacturing take decades, sometimes even centuries, to decompose. A polyester garment can take anywhere from 20 to 200 years to decompose. These synthetic fibers sit on our earths surface for years and years, bleeding synthetic chemicals and dyes into our wildlife’s food and soil supply. During these long decomposition processes, textiles often generate greenhouse methane gases, which can even pollute the air that we breathe. America has an addiction to fast fashion. The things that get left behind at the thrift, end up getting shipped off to African countries, where they inevitably become waste in their lakes, rivers, and communities. We are shoving our clothes into our neighbors closet, but just because we cannot see it, does not mean it is not there. We do not have unlimited space here, on planet Earth. Join us on our mission to change the fashion retail world, ethically, ecologically, and fashionably.

INCLUSION

Here at Yellow Sky, we do not believe in assigning a gender to any item of clothing. We believe that the fashion industry’s historical need to gender specify clothing, has been digressive, and is the exact opposite of what fashion is supposed to be. No human should ever be told how to express themselves based on any other human’s set of rubrics. We hope that you find something on our site that will take courage for you to wear, regardless of the color, shape or style, and we hope that you decide to wear it. Life is too short to stay in your comfort zone forever. Our promise to you is to never list an Item in a Gender designated category. When asked whether we specialize in men’s or women’s clothing, we like to say that we specialize in human clothing.

LOVE

Most simply of all, we really hope to make a positive impact on somebody’s day, every day, with our clothing. One of our favorite parts of selling clothing is watching someone’s face light up when they come across a piece that means something special to them. We can feel all the love and history attached to a garment every time we find one to add to the collection, so we hope that we can act as an extension of that love and history, from the garments previous owner, to you!

WITH LOVE, YLWSKY

Thank you to everyone who has supported our journey thus far!
